Would Tulane be on the same level as LSU? The world may never know. Had Tulane stuck around and remained in the SEC, who knows where it would be today. With that being the case, Tulane took off for football independence until the formation of Conference USA in 1996. Tulane ( and Georgia Tech, who joined the ACC) wanted scholarship restrictions to be limited to 140 between football and basketball, but the rest of the SEC was not willing to place a cap. Tulane was a charter member of the SEC in 1933, but the school made the decision to leave the conference in 1964 because of a fundamental difference in opinion regarding scholarship limits. The problem with Ryan’s assertion that South Carolina leaving the ACC was the biggest mistake in conference changes is over the years is it’s not even the worst decision by a school to leave what would become a power conference. NEW ORLEANS, LA – SEPTEMBER 24: Head coach Willie Fritz of the Tulane Green Wave reacts during the second half of a game against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at Yulman Stadium on Septemin New Orleans, Louisiana. Rutgers has pretty much been a hot mess and a laughing stock since joining the Big Ten. In the case of Rutgers, the push to get the Big Ten brand as close to the New York market was complete, regardless of how valuable that NYC market really is.īut could the Big Ten have managed to cut a slice of the Big Apple without Rutgers? Does Rutgers really bring that much value to the conference? Was Rutgers really the key to working out a deal with the New York Yankees and the Pinstripe Bowl? That is doubtful at best, because the Big Ten and Yankees could have just as easily worked out a way to make a deal for more money with or without Rutgers, and odds are they would have. Instead, the Big Ten offered an escape from a financial burden to Maryland and added on Rutgers to come up with a 14-team conference that would allow for a reworking of the division lineup. There was a clear push to expand the conference in an eastward direction, but options like Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh were either non-existent or too far-fetched or too late to discuss. When the Big Ten announced it was inviting Rutgers and Maryland to the conference, there were mixed opinions. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Feb. Though data is limited and race and ethnicity are widely underreported, preliminary data does show racial disparities. 8, 2021, less than 3 percent of the US population had been vaccinated with both doses to date. Preliminary data highlights vaccine disparities:Īs of Feb. Recently, the Biden Administration announced it will begin shipping an additional 1 million vaccine doses each week to thousands of pharmacies across the country in an effort to improve equity and increase access to the vaccine. These steps help achieve equity by identifying underserved communities, sending them extra vaccine supplies, improving public trust in the vaccine, and ensuring individuals are able to get vaccinated. The Biden Administration’s National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response emphasizes equity in vaccine distribution to “protect those most at risk and advance equity, including across racial/ethnic and rural/urban lines.” This includes increasing data collection and reporting for high-risk groups, supporting communities most at risk of COVID-19, and ensuring equitable access to critical COVID-19 personal protective equipment, tests, therapies, and vaccines. However, early data suggests that these populations are receiving vaccines at lower rates than White Americans.Īs President Biden highlights his administration’s commitment to equity, officials from a cross section of states told the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) how they are working to simultaneously build and strengthen systems to track and address disparities in COVID-19 vaccine administration. At the county level, the vaccination-rate gap between the counties Biden and Trump won has increased nearly six-fold from 2.2% in April to 12.9% in mid-September, according to KFF.As states rapidly work to get COVID-19 vaccines into arms as quickly as possible as viral variants spread, state officials know vaccine rollout plans must focus on equitable distribution to communities of color, especially Black and Latinx communities that have experienced disproportionately high infection rates, hospitalizations, and deaths. Of the 29 states below the national average, Donald Trump carried 24. Of the 21 states with vaccination rates above the national average, Joe Biden carried 20 last November. These national divergences are reflected at the state and county level as well, per data from Johns Hopkins University. In response to a more sharply worded KFF question, 23% of Republicans report that they will “definitely not” get vaccinated, compared to 11% of Independents and just 4% of Democrats. According to Gallup, 40% of Republicans “don’t plan” to get vaccinated, versus 26% of Independents and just 3% of Democrats. There is no reason to believe that these gaps in vaccination rates will disappear anytime soon. Along party lines, however, the breakdown was 92% of Democrats, 68% of Independents, and 56% of Republicans. As of mid-September, 75% of adult Americans have been vaccinated, including 73% of non-Hispanic white adults and 78% of non-whites. Contrast these converging figures with disparities based on politics: 90% of Democrats had been vaccinated, compared with 68% of Independents and just 58% of Republicans.Ī Gallup survey released on Sept. 13-22, 72% of adults 18 and older had been vaccinated, including 71% of white Americans, 70% of Black Americans, and 73% of Hispanics. Most countries in Europe, the United States, and other parts of the world lagged behind in the development of HEAs. Soon after, he decided to begin creating these special alloys in his lab, being in the only region researching these alloys for over a decade. Development Īlthough HEAs were considered from a theoretical standpoint as early as 19, and throughout the 1980s, in 1995 Taiwanese scientist Jien-Wei Yeh came up with his idea for ways of actually creating high-entropy alloys, while driving through the Hsinchu, Taiwan, countryside. Although HEAs have been studied since the 1980s, research substantially accelerated in the 2010s. įurthermore, research indicates that some HEAs have considerably better strength-to-weight ratios, with a higher degree of fracture resistance, tensile strength, and corrosion and oxidation resistance than conventional alloys. These alloys are currently the focus of significant attention in materials science and engineering because they have potentially desirable properties. Some alternative names, such as multi-component alloys, compositionally complex alloys and multi-principal-element alloys are also suggested by other researchers. The term "high-entropy alloys" was coined by Taiwanese scientist Jien-Wei Yeh because the entropy increase of mixing is substantially higher when there is a larger number of elements in the mix, and their proportions are more nearly equal. Hence, high-entropy alloys are a novel class of materials. For example, additional elements can be added to iron to improve its properties, thereby creating an iron-based alloy, but typically in fairly low proportions, such as the proportions of carbon, manganese, and others in various steels. Prior to the synthesis of these substances, typical metal alloys comprised one or two major components with smaller amounts of other elements. High-entropy alloys ( HEAs) are alloys that are formed by mixing equal or relatively large proportions of (usually) five or more elements. The good news for Ranger fans is that Tim Peel hasn’t made a call that was so egregious against the Blueshirts that it springs to mind immediately. There’s no doubt that hockey fans can find something wrong with every NHL official. In The Athletic’s (subscription required) 2020 players poll Peel was ranked the second worst referee in the NHL. Peel has been controversial and has made his share of iffy calls (or non-calls). (That sure did sound like Tim Peel, who I believe also called the Nashville penalty from center ice.) The unofficial reason given for the one-game suspension at the time was that Wyshynski tweeted out a picture of the two doing tequila shots, but it’s clear the NHL was not happy with Peel’s frank comments. Peel spoke about some taboo subjects including how referees are directed to call games by the league. Tim Peel was suspended by the NHL after he gave a long interview to Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports in 2015. Peel had to be helped off the ice, but returned to the game. NOVEMBER 22, 2019: Referee Tim Peel #20 lies on the ice and is tended to by Domenic Nicoletta, Head athletic therapist of the Ottawa Senators after getting hit on the side of his head hit by a puck shot by Jacob Trouba #8 of the New York Rangers (Photo by Jana Chytilova/Freestyle Photography/Getty Images) The only other memorable incident was in November 2019 when a Jacob Trouba shot hit Peel in the head during a game in Ottawa. You could say that it was just a “play on” situation, but Marchand dropped his gloves and was looking for a fight which Fox avoided. Some questioned the lack of a call against Brad Marchand on this play.īrad Marchand and Adam Fox exchange pleasantries. I was just kind of shocked.”Įarlier this season, Peel was the referee in the Rangers’ 6-2 win over the Bruins on February 26. At the time Brassard said “Tim’s one of best refs in the league, he’s been around a long time,” Brassard said. The New York Post said that Peel was “screaming bloody murder” at Brassard. For some reason Peel took offense and skated to the bench and really laced into a perplexed Brassard. Brassard had an innocuous conversation with linesman Lonnie Cameron. In December 2015, there was a bizarre incident when Peel got into a heated R-rated conversation with Derick Brassard at the Rangers’ bench. It would be great if we could look back and say “Aha, Tim Peel made a bad call ad the Rangers lost!” but there is really no history of Peel making a call against the Rangers that was clearly questionable. It remains to be seen if he will fight it and if the referees’ union will support him. That’s a pretty definitive end to his career as an NHL referee. Referee Tim Peel no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future. The F%%$ing Penalty Tim Peel “wanted to get against #Preds “ #DETvsNSH #NHL #nhlfi /gWWn0OaD3L Had to happen, but he was just saying something every ref thinks/does. The NHL has parted ways with Tim Peel after these comments. At the next TV timeout, Peel was hear saying “It wasn’t much, but I wanted to get a f-ing penalty against Nashville early.” It was a questionable call and it looked like the Red Wings Jon Merrill might have embellished it. Peel called a tripping penalty early in the second period on Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson. Does Peel have a history with the New York Rangers?įirst, the specifics. After a social media uproar, the NHL canned him. Peel said that he was looking to call a penalty against the Predators. He has lost his job following a comment he made that was caught on a hot microphone during Tuesday night’s game between Detroit and Nashville. The NHL took some stern action following a hot mic episode with referee Tim Peel. Since Trello boards are already organized in a manner that is easy enough for further use, converting them into a presentation can have many benefits. The platform itself is supported across all modern browsers, be it Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. Trello boards are accessible via the web, Android, and iOS apps, and via desktop apps for Mac and Windows. Example of a Trello Board for Project Management This also comes with other options you would expect in any modern app of this type, such as the utility to share your boards, collaborate with others, and integrate other apps to improve workflow and productivity. Trello app’s simplicity has made it famous among project managers and people looking to organize their workflow and projects systematically. Some would even compare the Google Keep app to a Kanban-style app for making lists similar to Kanban boards. Other than Trello, the concept of using a Kanban board has been incorporated by many project management applications like Asana, Jira, Microsoft Planner, etc. As the name implies, a Kanban board, as the name implies, is used to manage work by visually displaying it in the form of cards in various columns. A lean manufacturing system by the same name was developed at Toyota in 1963. Kanban means a signboard or billboard in Japanese. If you’re new to digital boards’ concept, to manage projects, tasks, and workflow, you might find yourself wondering what is Trello? It is an app used for making Kanban lists. Presentations, Productivity and Trello Boards However, they are often not aware of simple tips to make Trello powerful, such as converting a Trello board into a Google Slides presentation or a PowerPoint template. Due to the ease of use, many people understand the basics of using Trello. This is where tools like Trello have been quite handy in recent years. However, for someone looking to make things simple, the emphasis is not on complexity but on making things easier. Then, only the original yellow / red blinking When I am done with the Lead, and I deactivate the LEAD effects switch, I also want to stop the STROBE along with it. The original lighting instructions (yellow red blinking) should continue, even when I activate the strobe during mid patch. For example, I may want to start a hard rock patch with blinking yellow and red lights, but when I get to the lead guitar part, I want to hit my "lead" midi foot switch (which also chooses my distortion effect), and I want it to trigger the STROBE in DMX. When I am within a single patch in MS, I want to be able to activate a button on my MIDI foot control, and send a different lighting signal to DMXIS. that way, I gives me time to scroll through 30 patches to find the correct one, without sending and starting 30 different DMX lighting instructions to the dance floor.Ģ.
